Are weak reductants or oxidizers whose reduced and oxidized forms have different colours.

The colour change occurs within a particular Redox potential transition range that must encompass the Redox potential of the equivalence point in the Redox titration to be performed.

If an oxidizing volumetric solution is used, the Redox potential of the indicator must be higher than the potential of the solution whereas in case of a reducing volumetric solution it must be lower.
